The Newfoundland Dog is not ugly, just Biiiiiig. Also, it is a little scary showing that gorilla.
They’re both Newfies, one is uglier
She had one as a kid, but it was stolen before it was fully grown so she never got to see how bad it would be for it to live in Florida. All the hair, with the skin problems, etc… just not a good idea. I’m hoping she’ll settle for a German Shepard.
Also, I posted this picture on a message board and someone replied with this.
“My girlfriend grew up with THREE. Her folks have 2 now. Wonderful, sweet dogs. THey get females, and they are easily some of the laziest, most useless creatures I’ve ever met. They sleep 18 hours a day, go for short walks, and refuse to play games. On the other hand, they follow you everywhere, and lean against you to beg for petting. If you stop, they look up and paw your leg. Adorable. ”
I don’t see all that as “adorable”, I would get quickly annoyed by their neediness and their ability to inflict their desperation with their sheer size
I live in FL and have a wonderful NEWFI , He has no problems and loves going to the beach. Why people like you got to open your Dumb Mouths , make no sence. And to the person who post the picture of a Newfi and Gorilla Just get a life. And by the way my Newfi Is a resue, and I know he happy tobe in a loveing home in FL
You sir/ma’am are a fucktard.
I love this educated sentence that “Captain D-Bag” wrote….”and I know he happy “tobe” in a “loveing” home in FL….I LOVE the spelling retard. Those dogs are hideous creatures that should be put down…they do look like gorillas…who would want a gorilla as a pet? You, Don, Captain D-Bag, are surely an idiot. Get some education and come back with a response that makes sense….notice how i spelled “sense?”
Newfoundlands are not needy dogs they just thrive on human companionship. Majority of dog breeds thrive on human companionship. If you are the type of person to get annoyed by a dog following you around and trying to show you affection. Then you don’t need a fucking dog or animal for that matter. Do us animal lovers a favor, DON’T PURCHASE A PET!
New Foundland dogs are AMAZING… One huge pile of fluff to cuddle and love. Plus I’m a firm believer than anything below the knee – is not really a dog (then you might as well get a cat)… A German Shepard is also a wonderful dog though…
Whether the fur is an issue might be something worth checking, would be a pity having to shave it heh…
I wish I could have a dog, but I can’t even take care of myself and I’m never home so unfortunately it will have to wait a few years – or maybe it’ll never happen… When are you getting one – can you wait till summer so I can come play with him/her while he/she is still a puppy hehe!!!!
ps. if you don’t want needy – again, get a cat
Personally I think Newfoundlands are smart reliable dogs, but I Florida is definitely not the best climate for them. It might work if you have air conditioning and are willing to take them to the beach on a regular beach on a regular basis.
As puppies they are quite a mess because of their size. Mine can reach just about anything I can which means that my kitchen cabinets are always getting “cleaned” when I’m not looking.
If they get hot they will “dig” in their water bowl and then lay in it and they have to be groomed diligently because otherwise they can get “hot spots” on their skin which have to be treated and open to air. My cousin’s old Newfoundland always had huge bald patches in the summer because of this.
There are many things that balance out these problems though. They are incredibly sweet dogs and are good with children. They are big enough that anyone who does not know the breed will assume they are dangerous which can deter robbers. They do smell a bit if not given regular bathes (especially if you let them swim in a lake/ocean) and many drool in the summer. If you don’t have air condition they are liable (especially as puppies) to sleep the hot day away and then bark all night. They are very apathetic and very huggable. They also are very susceptible to hip problems, but then again what large breed isn’t?
Overall I like them a lot, but then again I’m home most of the day and it isn’t quite summer yet…
Look, no offense buddy but you humans are the ones descended from apes, alright? Not us…we’re descended from Creodonts. Although, fair enough, both you AND us share an ancestor…(a shrewish looking thing).
As for ugly – we’re told we’re gorgeous on a daily basis by all SORTS of people. And our owners have said we’re the best “wingmen” ever, whatever that means, and that if they weren’t already married they’d have no trouble meeting new folks to date thanks to us.
Jules is welcome to visit us at our blog.
Um…ugly? What are you on? Oh, you’re not on anything….you’ve just been unfortunate enough to have not evolved any further than that gorilla you happened to picture there (is that you, by the way?) Look, buddy, you mess with the Newfies, and you’re going to have some angry people after you, mark my words. I just hope your friend Jules gets one big enough so that it will sit on you and suffocate you.
Have a nice day, bud.
hahahaha thats pretty funny Liz…but seriously…the dog is ugly as hell. The face, the head, just everything about them dogs are ugly. Thanks!!
And what do you think is pretty??? A pitbull? Look up Josh the Newfoundland…hes just one example and I think he is the best looking dog ive ever seen…he won the 2004 AKC Eukanuba working group and overall world championship….and listen to the crowd when he is announced winner…everyone is entitled to their opinion i guess lol…they are life savers, intelligent, brave, noble and loyal…and HUGE lol. What more could a dog owner want?
Nope, still not bought on in it haha. I mean they are great dogs dont get me wrong, and a dog with personality and loyalty are highly important but I just dont see how people think they are good looking dogs haha, to me they are quite ugly.
Well said, Liz. Bravo!! Don’t mess with Newfies and the people who love them…
Buddy, you’re an idiot, plain and simple. You’re seriously comparing a dog to a gorilla?
I get more compliments on how beautiful my Newf is than I have any other dog I have owned. Labs, Huskies, Goldens, no dog has ever gotten as much attention and compliments than my Newf. Yes, she is hairy and slobbery and huge. But she is also intelligent, loyal, intimidating to strangers, protective of her people yet affectionate to everyone, and posesses natural lifesaving instinct in regards to water. She has received no formal training, yet instinctively knows exactly what to do to save someone in distress. I hope Jules does get his Newf, and I hope it saves you from drowning some day. Then you will literally owe your life to the “ugly gorilla dog”. See how much you dislike them after they pull you back from watching your life flash before you.
It’s scary to realize that my Newf is lightyears beyond you when it comes to intelligence.
And furthermore, anyone who describes a Newf as a lazy, useless creature should have a dog that is only there to look cute and be carried around in a purse. If you don’t have the time and energy to put into doing something with your dog, don’t get one that requires so much attention. Useless? So I guess rescuing people from water is useless. Hmmm. I always thought that would be kind of important… And draft work? Having a lot of property it sure is helpful to have a dog strong enough to pull a cart of leaves when fall cleanup rolls around… A working Newf is a happy Newf.
A. Gorillas are adorable
B. Newfoundlands are adorable
C. YOU ARE NOT ADORABLE!!!
Newfoundlands have to be one of the best and most ‘USEFUL’ breeds. What dog do you know that will jump out of a helicopter just for the sheer purpose of saving someone’s life (probably even yours if you were in the position). Yes they drool and they shed, but hey really what dog doesn’t. Oh little dogs you can carry in your purse, but they yip and nip (i’ve had a couple, and i have loved them dearly so i can say so). No dog is perfect, but there’s no need to poke fun and make judgement against an innocent creature. You however, are not innocent, you are just plain mean and like i said before not adorable!
You guys are great to read!!! I have to say I never researched a dog before. My husband is out in the field right now (Army) and called to ask if I ever heard about a Newfoundland before. He just saw one and fell in love. So I started looking!! And I love them. Your comments really made me take that last tumble!
We are looking for a breeder in NY. Hope to find a good one because I want this dog with a passion. We have a Chocolate lab that was born in Jan and live on 4+ acres so I want to add more animals for him and, of couse, us. The bonus is that we live in the North country where the winters are harsh, we have children and also 2 ponds that they swim in. This seems like the dream dog for our home.
Thanks once again for your comments – we are getting one ASAP!
-Rebekah
Rebekah, please please please do not rush and get a Newfie from just any breeder that you can find. I see that you started doing research when your husband called about that breed of dog and I strongly urge you to do MORE research as there are many backyard breeders and puppymills out there.
Rebekah give yourself more time, do more research, make sure you find a reputable Newfoundland breeder that has her dogs OFA certified and also has a 2-year health guarantee. And don’t just research the breed, research your potential breeder who you are interested in buying a puppy from. NEVER, NEVER, BUY A PUPPY OR DOG FROM A PET STORE. PET STORES GET THEIR DOGS AND PUPPIES FROM PUPPY MILL BREEDERS. If you want a dog that is relatively free from any genetic health defects, buy your puppy from a REPUTABLE BREEDER! I wish you the best of luck with finding your new addition to the family.
As long as you have air conditioning, I think it would be fine to have a Newfie in Florida. We have a Newfie in Maryland. It’s hot and humid here in the summer and he does just fine, laying around in the A/C most of the time, eating ice cubes as if they were decadent treats. My mother-in-law also has a Newfie here in Maryland. Get Jules a Newfie. You will be surprised how attached you’ll become to the gigantic bundle of love.
I to live in maryland and my two newfy buster and sadi are doing well.
most loveable kids I have. I consider my dogs like my children not having kids in the normal sence. I wish my english bulldog got along better with my yorky not sure if i would recamend a yorky to anybody that has more then one pet. small dogs tend to be much more a problem then the bigger dogs. That is once you get past the chewing stage. lol
ya maymuna pek rengi benziyor ve duruşu ama maymunlar ayaktada uzun süre yürür newfoundland ayakta birine dayanarak durur
I happen to live in Florida & i have a Newfie. Great dog! Wouldn’t trade him for anything in the world. He fairs quite well in the airconditioning & loves the occassional dunk in the pool. The coat acts as insulation in the heat as well as the cold. Can’t be kept outside for long periods of time but then again who wants to be outside in the Florida heat? Requires alot of work? Yes. Messy? Yes. Hairy? Yes. Drools? Most definately yes. But he is the best & most wonderful companion. Own one & you will not regret it!!! Amazing!!!
Seriously people, you all are freaks. Having a dog like that in Florida is wrong and they do look like gorillas. While gorillas are attractive in their own way, I’m more of a Yorkie guy.
You’re taking this wayyyyy too serious.
are u homosexual? Here in rural ohio that sounds gay! My newfs have been the best companion ever. I love my humans, but no love like newfie love! won’t be no yiipin er ankle biten going on. i take mine everywhere he is very loved and gets way more lovin an attention in petsmart than any other breed n there period.
Newfoundlands are great dogs, and would do alright in Florida, provided some air condition and swimming trips! I hope you choose to get one
M. Wade Nichols –
You must be kidding. If you so much as glanced at a Newf without your snooty nose stuck up in the air, you’d know they’re far more agile, majestic, goofy, and wonderful then you could hope to be for all your life.
Obviously you know nothing about Newfoundlands. They are amazing companions, doing draft work, SAVING DROWNING PEOPLE, and being waterfall droolers!
Saving drowning people: Would you jump into the ocean during a storm to save a stranger you don’t know? I think not. A Newfoundland would, however.
ugly as dog just like yo momma
You are entitled to your opinion; however, Newfies don’t look like Gorillas, they are very beautiful dogs. Get a life!
OK a newfoundland is the BEST dog ever i just got a new puppy and all he wants to do i give you kisses. His name is Murray and he just wants to make us happy! He is barly 4 months old and is about 50 pounds and they dont look like a gorilla. they are just a big lover. And his Favorite toy is my soccer ball. If u get one you will see how great they are!! All they want to do is help you if you think that is useless there is somthing wrong with you
Okay, a year after I posted this, it’s still one of my most trafficked pages.
I do not hate the Newfound dog. I was saying that it’s bad for Florida climate. My wife wants one and now that we live in Kentucky, I can see getting one. I read all about it’s demeanor- how it’s protective and loyal. I love those two traits.
However, I’ll never back down from my stance that it looks like a gorilla… and honestly, if I could own a gorilla in Kentucky, I would.
Done
You would be a fool to try to own a Gorilla, it is a wild animal, you can’t train it like a dog or teach it to do tricks. Without the knowledge or expertise of handling wild animals, the results could end up disastrous. All wild animals deserve to be in the wild, or in wildlife reserve parks or sanctuaries. Not in people’s backyards, garages, homes, or basements.
yo. i have a Newf. he will eat your whole head (but only out of love)
Crys: That’s probably the nicest threat I’ve gotten from you Newfie lovers
Honestly, now that we’re in Kentucky, I wouldn’t mind having one since Julie wants one so bad.
Well said steph! Dude, dont mess with us dog people….We HAVE the giant breeds, we HAVE trained them…hope you get the drift. NEVER Compare a Newfie to a gorilla again, its just plain offensive. I can’t really say much, everyone’s said it, and quite seriously, I hold a grudge, and(I know this seems very childish, but hey, thats just me) I’m not going to forgive you that easily for saying that 1) Newfies are “Useless”, 2) You comapred them ot a GORILLA FOR GODS SAKE, 3) Yes I agree with everyone who said it, a Yorkie isn’t a real dog, it’s below knee level… it’s a cat with longer fur and duller, non-retractable, claws. Go rot in a hole somewhere, I won’t forget this.
(FWI, I’m Canadian. We Hold Massive Grudges.)
i love newfoundland dogs, i think they’re beautiful.
i’m from newfoundland and i know how harsh the climate is here. the newfoundland dog is meant to beable to live in cold weather in the winter and warm weather in the summer, but no where near the extremity of florida. since kentucky is much further north and, i assume, has much less heat then florida does, then a newfoundland dog would be a good choice. from owning one myself a few years ago, i can safely say that they’re extremely loyal and protective. if you can stand the hair and the size then you have no worries. also, they don’t drool as much as people make them out to.
You really can’t go wrong with the Newfies… I’ve been raised with them in the family, and they are the best imo. I can’t stand the slobber, but the love and companionship and playfulness and activity more than makes up for that!
To the person in NY State looking for breeders:
I highly recommend that you locate breeders in Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, or New Brunswick. If you don’t mind a bit of a road trip, you will definitely be able to get puppies from award winning breeders. MAKE SURE YOU ASK FOR CERTIFICATIONS!!! you don’t want to end up with a grey, or one with hip displasia (sp?).
As a child, we had an over-sized, over-furred, over-slobbery in the warmth, ultra protective but tolerant of children and friendly with everyone who wasn’t a threat or a jerk. That was Cassie, the protector of all neighborhood kids and took charge of neighborhood watch. She layed around most of the time, but only because poverty placed us in a small house where she had little room to do anything other than lay down, although we spent countless hours playing with her outside during the day. Our father left when we were tiny, but Cassie was given to us, and it was well worth paying to feed the largest member of my family, whom never even played rough. In this neighborhood were plenty of peeping toms, etc., who scoured the neighborhoods houses… except our house was left alone:Cassie, they knew, might be outside at any given moment, and quiet and stealth we some of her traits. Oklahomas 100+ degrees and humidity were the only true set back. I could go on for hours regarding her attributes. When we finally had to give her up, well, I’m sure you can imagine the devistation we all experienced. I was suprised to learn other dogs did not display the intelligence Cassie did. Not untill almost 30 yrs later did I find Cassie’s traits in another “dog”, who, of course, is my Labrador.
Newfoundland dogs are absolutely the best. Once they own you, you will never want another kind of dog. They are so noble, intelligent, gentle, and just a great big bundle of love. I have had: Collie, Cocker, Dachshund, Fox Terrier, Eskimo Spitz, Poodle, and Yorkie. These are all great dogs but after having a Newfoundland for 14 years I cannot go to another breed. They are very special and absolutely beautiful. Gorillas are awesome looking animals but do not hold a candle to the Newf. Watch it buddy!
No, they’re not ugly. Any time my newf met children, he was always the dog they went for, because he had such a trustable kind face and looked like a great teddy bear. Perfect strangers would gush over him. One small child asked if he was a bear. And over 14 years, not an ounce of malice. Once when my husband was yelling at our son, the dog just got up and interposed his own body – which is classic newf, protecting but not agressive. I don’t think you could meet a more loving and gentle soul. Honestly, the nicest beast. His only problem was an impulse to rescue perfect strangers who were splashing in the water and appeared to be drowning. He was very protective of the children, particularly when swimming, but if you wove your hands through his fur, he would tow you for hours. Buy from a reputable dealer – worth every extra penny. We knew our dog’s mother and his breeder well, and managed to get the only newf in the world who didn’t drool – except in the presence of chocolate, and who doesn’t?
ones a newfie the other is a gorilla
newfies are the best and you just are jelouse cause they are cute
I’m sure that by now you’re tired of hearing how great newfies are-you’ve heard it from a bunch of people, so you already know. Soooooo….did you give Jules her dog yet? I’m sure my herculean buddy would tell you you should if he could talk. If you’re still put off by their size, females are slightly smaller. And, if it gets hot, cause I know it does in KE,they LOVE water and a ten dollar kiddie wading pool makes a great hangout for them in the summer.Mine doesn’t shed more than any other dog, either. All you newfie people out there, you have great taste. Thanks for defending our breed! But I think the poor guy was just making a joke….give him a break. You can’t blame him;he doesn’t have a massive ball of fluffy love…yet. Sorry, man, but you can’t resist the call of the newf much longer! XD
Nope, no Newfie yet. She did get an enorugmulusly large, black cat though- that if it were a dog, would probably be a Newfie. Does that count?
No, it does not count
YAY FOR NEWFIES!!!!!! i have five newfies and a little jack russel and i love them soooo much and there far from useless mine all do water work draft work and ring work and a brill at it all, i live in england so the climate is brill for them (wet and windy they love it) all though i have had people say there similar to gorillas and bears!!
Hiya Gemma
I am also in england..I have wanted a newfie for about a year now.since my mum rescued a female.she is beautiful.
Have held off getting one as I want to buy from a really good breeder,
Would you know of a breeder where i can get a lovely pup from
Thanks Jacqui
and there beautifal not ugly!!
i make personalised clay figures of newfies (and other breeds) please visit my online group http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/newfyclays/
also i have to add, i think “below knee level dogs” are dogs just the same as big dogs like newfies iv always had big and small dogs as i am a DOG lover and my little jack russel dog is not yappie shes very clever and also verl cute and she thinks she is a newfoundland!!
And theres nothing wrong with grey newfies i have two!!
hya jacqui, if you go to the newfoundland dog-club website http://www.thenewfoundlandclub.co.uk/ they have a long list of breeders to choose from. im sure you have, and have also heard it lots of times but i sugest you do ALOT of research into newfies as all newfs or unique and there not all dopy and placid, and also puppies are very different to grown newfs, other than that i wish you all the best in your quest for newfie love lol !
also getting a rescue newf is brill as plenty of people get rid of newfys when they get “too” big, or they neglect them horibly! so its always good to give a loving home to an unwanted newfie!
Newfs are great dogs… but be careful where you get them… visit the AKC Newfoundland website for reputable breeders. These puppy mills and backyard breeders have to be shut down. They do not treat their dogs well. Inner breeding is common, causing all sorts of problems with the bloodlines, and they are in it for the money to make a profit. Which means they do not spend the money to properly treat the puppies for an onsloght of parasites.
The great thing about newfys are their calm and quite disposition. As a newfy owner, I keep in contact with a few reputable breeders and one of them said he was taking care of his sister’s malamute last summer, at the end of the day he gathered all his newfs and the malamute from the 20 acre farm to put them in their kennels for the night. The dog he was sitting for his sister had to be lead to the house and during transport, the dog turned on him and bit him repeatedly. His largest male newfy, pinned the malamute to the ground (not bitting) and held him there until his owner could get in the house. That newf would not let that dog up until it was out of the “red zone” as ceasar m. would say! In my opinion, the newfoundland breed is one of the best dogs anyone could own. As for the hot climate of Florida, you may want to do some research on why this breed of dog exsists. History explains why the dog was bred as large as it is, why they have so much hair, and their temperment. This is a working class dog and loves the challenge of towing, swimming and rescue. Goodluck with your decision.
my god i love newfies they are the best dogs in the world!! please visit http://www.piratebears.co.uk for info and fun about newfs (its my sisters website) if you love newfies ul love this site!!
We are on our 3rd Newf and wonder how anyone could go thru life without one.
Yes you need the necessary environment like living in Baja with a beach. However we travel in our motohome for weeks and “Schoochy the Nudge” is very much at home. One of the true bennies is they get your sorry ass out of bed and your best pal will take you for a walk.
Hi there. I am a newfoundlander myself and I have have a Newfoundland dog name Charlie. I just wanna let you know that Here in Newfoundland the waters and oceans can be very rough. A little boy fell off the cliffs a couple months ago and without even thinking twice, Charlie jumped off the cliff and into the water and pulled the boy to safety. We feed him good food, take him for long walks and play ball for hours. He is a happy and in great shape dog. In return, he is the most loving and gentle dog who can now say the he saved a 6 year old boy’s life. I hope you do your research before getting one and know that they are a lot of work but are worth it.
Newfoundland dogs are really cute(then again i am a total dog lover i couldn’t meet anyone who loved dogs more, but im not creepy like i dont have dog statues all over my house and I don’t even have a dog because my houyse it waaay to small and i don’t have any time for them so i like visiting dogs) and not scary when i walk home i see a newfoundland my friend thinks its creepy but i thought it was cute! How can you compare it to a gorilla!? I thought it was a Bernese Mountain Dog at first because it looked like them then I found out Bernese Mountain Dogs are never completely black.
I just happened by this blog and thought I would put in my two cents.
I came upon my Newfoundland by accident: He was running loose in the street and the owner claimed he’d been chasing him all day (he was telling me his story from his Lazy-boy) and was gonna take him to the pound. I was flabbergasted. I basically just took him.
Unfortantely, Lou died last November at the age of 10. Of all the dogs I’ve grown up with and been around, he was the best. My two year old would lean on him and accidentally sat on him once Lou just wagged his tail. He was loaded with personality, charm, and definitely a stinker at times. As with any dog they do need work – what dog doesn’t. As for the grooming, mine loved it. I never had odor problems but he did blow out one knee which required surgery and did some damage to the other. Still all worth it. Right now we don’t have pets but there’s been talk of a dog in the future. My husband who is not a pet person freely admits the Newfies are a great dog and also admits to missing Big Lou. Since we’re moving to Florida and will be living on a boat we won’t be getting another one, only because they do require a bit of room and I would worry about the heat. But I’m still hopeful that we can get another someday.
it is amazing that in todays day and age people can be so ignorant. I have two newfs that are smarter, more reliable and obedient than most people i know. I do understand Florida may be too warm for the dogs, however if they are in good health and are fareing well so be it. i beleve the comparison to a gorilla is not too far fetched, a gorilla will go to extreme lengths to protect itself and its family, not to mention their intelligence. i cant immagine comming home with out my puppies.
I agree with you, it is imazing how people can be ignorant, simple-minded, and downright cruel. Newfies are wonderful dogs, that are very intelligent with a calm and gentle demeanor.
yes matt, i agree!
Please check out this standing newfie model i made, its on ebay!

The owner of six of these wonderful dogs you have no idea what you’re missing. They say newfs are like potato chips one is never enough!!!
here here, thats why i have 5!!! love them!!
they’re wrong for Florida’s climate but the only ugly thing here is you
Heehee! Who would have thought that a silly comment and comparison could raise the heckles of so many people
When we moved to the countryside my husband and I decided to get a Newfie because of all the room we’d suddenly have. With a big open-plan house and 2 1/2 acres why go for something that would fit inside a handbag?
We did our research as to the requirements of these sweet beasts and happened upon an owner of two Newf females who wanted to breed one of them just once before she was spayed. She had located a Canadian champ who would be the daddy of her pups. We paid her expenses for raising a pup to 4 months of age, arrived a week after the pups were born, let our pup choose us, visited him every week from the day he was born and until we took him home, and we have not looked back.
He’s now 18 months old and weighs a healthy 180 pounds, has that beautiful big mastiff face and is the most wonderful dog one could imagine. He loves to wrestle and play rough with the boys of the family, but is gentle and considerate with the girls… If one of us is ill, he doesn’t leave our side until we’re better. If my husband takes a mid-afternoon nap, our Duke is on the floor next to the bed. He loves company, but is happy to play on his own, too (which we take as a sign of him being well-balanced and happy).
Recently, his litter mum called in distress. Her family was breaking up and she could no longer afford or manage to keep her two female Newfies and Duke’s brother, together with the two other smaller dogs she had. We agreed then and there to adopt Duke’s auntie, Shannon. She arrived nearly four weeks ago, a bit shaggy and slightly unsettled.
Four weeks with a lot of loving, good food, brushing and play-time later, it’s as if she’s always been with us. Her and Duke have sorted out the pecking order among themselves and get along famously.
I would recommend a Newf to anyone who wants a dog for companionship. These guys make great friends, and as several have said above, they are completely non-aggressive while being very protectice. Because of their sheer size, they just place themselves between a perceived danger and those they wish to protect… And they ARE a great ice-breaker for conversations.. Take your Newf for a walk, and you’ll be sure to spark conversations along the way: Spread the word!
Your mother is ugly and her hairy cunt is just wrong for Florida’s climate
I am trying to talk my husband into allowing me a newfie puppy. We have 2 large dogs already. We have a steady income and children who loves animals as much as we do. We want to buy land in the next year to build a house on.. How do you guys do it with multiple ones? Where do they sleep? How much do they eat? How often do they get groomed? We take ours once a month but I read that Newfies need it weekly if not more? Thanks!!!!!!
Irene
I’m not sure how I ever missed this barrage of grammatical mistakes and ranting all placed incoherently about Newfoundlands. Wow. No, I mean really, really WOWza. Apparently, “Newf” owners/breeders sit around and google anything and everything about those animals so that they can make ridiculously hostile comments and seem beyond foolish, especially being that they are clearly unaware of your humorous, facetious personality. I LOVE that.
Excuse me? Ridiculously hostile compliments? Talk to gorilla man.
“I think they’re ugly and look like gorillas.”
It’s even worse than the part-bear jokes, which most Newf owners get a lot!
lol, its true, im not sure about “sitting around allday” but if im on the net and ive done all i need to do and i have some spare time, i will search newfie stuff, ovcourse i will, i love newfies! I actually happend upon this site when looking for other sculptors like myself, and the thing is when you love an animal as much as i (and all you other newfie mad people) love them, you feel like ranting when somebody puts them down!! Espesially as they are such a magnificent breed! And as for all the grammatical mistakes, when im “ranting” on a site with people i dont know personally im not particularly worried about my spelling! and yes i probably spelt that wrong aswell!
I do think newfies can look like gorrilas though, and they most deffinatly look like lovely big grizzly bears, but they deffinatly are NOT ugly!
Oh and asdf, your an idiot.
Why in the world would you picture a great dog the Newfoundland with an Ape?
hey newfie lovers, please come and check this out, and feel free to have your say!!

lol, dog peeps can get so het up about their beloveds.
I’m thinking of getting a newfoundland too over here in the uk, and most of the comments here have been useful as to their temperament and health issues. Thanks for that.
Though i have a confession – i thought the pic of a gorilla was actually the dog but shaved like a poodle. lol. I thought ‘how cruel for someone to do that!’
to the guy who posted this i hope you guys got your perfect dog.
ok to all you folks talking like a gorilla comparison is an insult, this is exactly why I love newfoundlands, even if they’re gentle they’re gnarly as nails. I will accept nothing less than a companion people mistake for a bear.
I hope someone can help. We got our newf 2 months ago, and noticed that she was a little incontinent. At first, we put it down to the usual; new home, immature bladder, etc. It has only become worse. Took her to the vet, hoping it was a simple bladder infection, it wasn’t. The vet suspects she has an ectopic ureter. There is a surgery that is 30 to 50 % effective in improving the problem, so I am told. Has anyone out there experienced this?
I read these comments out of sheer boredom one day last year, way before deciding to get a Newf, and returned again this year to see more humorous stuff. This time I made it all the way down so I had to add my own. Love the pic of the gorilla. I hope you have gotten your own Newf by now, I did, you will LOVE that dog.
