I came across an old e-mail from a girl friend of mine and sent her the following message.

So I did a search for “puppies” in my email to find photos of my mom’s new dogs and I came across this email (with photos) from you.

Just thought I’d let you know, you’re beautiful. Don’t let anyone else (including yourself) tell you otherwise

Later that day, she replied with the following.

Aww, that was very sweet. I was just having an issue with my bf about my need for reassurance. Maybe your daily affirmations on myspace filled my need to hear positive things! Who knew you were such a psychologist!

We continued to discuss the affirmations & reassurance in greater detail. She’s a very strong-willed, independent woman, which you wouldn’t normally associate a need of such things- but as The Smiths would say, “She is human and she needs to be loved, just like everybody else does…” Sometimes we, as guys, forget that. We see our women through our own perception and forget that they have a perception of their own. A perception that doesn’t always align with our, often, more positive view.

With that on my mind this week, it caused me to be a bit more aggressively outspoken with Jules. Instead of saying something like, “Be quiet, you’re pretty” I upped it to, “I refuse to gangbang your body with hate speech” and variations thereof. It wasn’t until I straddled her on the bed and took pictures, while she yelled “No, not that angle, my chub!,” for her to see what I see.

Her reply, “Oh, okay… that one isn’t so bad.“

No more wrongful conjures in her head, just 320 x 240 vivid pixels from my phone that do not lie.

My grandmother recently sent us some pictures she took from our wedding.

This morning, Julie calls me into the bathroom. Not to just look in the bathroom, but to join her in there and she proceeds to close the door.

“Look.“

“What?“

She was so happy. “The light. Doesn’t it set the mood better than the overhead light? It goes along with our pictures of dead people, skeleton keys & unpolished copper trays that decorate it.“

I walked out smiling, “You’re stupid.”

Hope it’s not too cold for my surprise…

Fuck.

I’ve been up all night, at home for 3 weeks. Not working, but making money here and there with poker, while my wife goes to a 9-5 job. I’m doing what I can, but it doesn’t seem like enough.

If I hate myself for this, then I won’t be good for her when she is off. If I don’t hate myself for this, then I’m a horrible husband. I know she knows what I want to do, provide for her, but intentions are moot in contrast to actions.

Tomorrow I’m going to play poker, with no guarantee of winning. Tomorrow, I’m going to talk to our neighbors who are leasing-to-own her car (who are behind on payments). Two things she can’t do, but I can do more. Tired of surviving, there’s more for us.

I can’t interview for a job until I take care of the BS DUI charge, but I can’t help from critiquing myself in the meantime.

Potential delayed, is frustrating.

I love you Jules. I love your patience, understanding & belief in me.

So, there I was, enjoying the new Kvetch and I about spit my drink out.

Sometimes our anger is so funny.

Everyone asks you why you’re with me and while my gut reaction is to tell them to SHUT UP, there is a very simple answer to it. You’re happy.

Happiness is subjective. People think of happiness as a pinnacle, while I believe it’s a 5 foot high plateau with no end in sight.

I was going through files on my computer tonight and came across this file that Crystal Anne (the vlogger vixen of spiritual guidance) made for me years ago.

I am happy to say, Mrs. Anne, that I have found that person to touch… touch- touch- touch for the rest of my life. I’m going to try to talk her into singing this at our wedding.

I hope mamma is happy
