Jules and I visited the library today. I got a few books and found a documentary called, “World’s Most Dangerous Drug” about Meth in the United States. While it covers the ins and outs of the drug, the movie also weaves the story of a couple (Michael & Janelle) into it that is just sad. [...]

Mad as Hell

06Mar09

Howard Beale: I don’t have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It’s a depression. Everybody’s out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel’s work, banks are going bust, shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in [...]

I’ve just been in that mood lately. Love, friendships, life, etc… Playing by Heart is one of those films that do it for me.

Click “Play All” to watch the whole movie.
“I have a friend, a jazz musician, trumpet player. Really terrific. And I go and hear him jam every month or so. [...]

I was reading about Philip K. Dick and his writings tonight and came across one of his quotes.
“I want to write about people I love, and put them into a fictional world spun out of my own mind, not the world we actually have, because the world we actually have does not meet my standards.“
In many of [...]

Smiles & Cries

04Mar09

From the movie Training Day (YouTube Trailer). A long joke for an apt ending. I included it all so that nothing is out of context.
Roger: Here’s a joke, boy. One day this man walks out of his house to go to work. He sees this snail on his porch. So he picks it up and chucks [...]

Unemployed

20Feb09

He doesn’t have benefits either, but least he’s his own boss.
…makes me want to watch Donnie Darko.

Yes, I’m getting cross-chatter.
There are many wrongs, but one right.
Your sins will be read to you ceaselessly, in shifts, throughout eternity. The list will never end.
D… Substance D. “D” is dumbness, and despair, desertion-desertion of you from your friends, your friends from you, everyone from everyone. Isolation and loneliness… and hating and suspecting each other, [...]

First off, what is typography?

Now some kinetic uses of it.
Chemical Burn from “Fight Club”

McLovin from “Superbad” (nsfw)

Friend Nobody Likes by Dane Cook (nsfw)

Marsellus Wallace from “Pulp Fiction” (nsfw)

There’s lots more on Youtube:

While I couldn’t find an official video by The Moldy Peaches for their song “Anyone else but you” I did find two that were very good.
First is the remake of the actors in “Juno.“

The second is a combination of one of the best love songs mixed with one of the best [...]

MGM Evolution

04Dec08

No matter the industry, I always like seeing how companies (with history) have changed over the decades.

Okay, I’m in love with a flickr stream. In this one she re-enacts a Hitchcock film.

My Tourniquet

23Nov08

Someone put together a music video, using clips from “Stigmata,” for the Evanescence song, “My Tourniquet.” I thought it was nicely done.

Big Fish

15Jul08

My grandfather, the storyteller, the fisherman.

And if you want to download the whole movie (1GB) here’s the torrent for you: http://isohunt.com/download/28804327/big+fish.torrent

I came across this today and was pleased by its contradiction of what’s “sexy” in American culture.
And for those who don’t know, this is referencing a movie called “American Beauty” where the sex appeal of the movie was a skinny Mena Suvari.

Be Clear

13Apr08

Interviewer: Heterosexual?
Parker: Can I ask you something? Are you a faggot? See, you asked me if I was heterosexual; I asked you the same question, only I was clear about the answer I was looking for.
Just a reminder. Be clear & direct with what you are asking and what you have to say. It’ll save [...]

Life & Death

13Jan08

[Circa 2000]

I created this graphic for a screenplay I was writing. Never finished it. I was so absolute back then. “Life & Death” as if I knew anything about either topic at age 21. The girl in the picture is Leilani, someone I met online and made a convenience friend out of. If there was [...]

Magical Negro

14Dec07

A conversation about the new Batman movie introduced me to a new phrase.
Magical Negro.
The magical negro is typically “in some way outwardly or inwardly disabled, either by discrimination, disability or social constraint,” often a janitor or prisoner. He has no past; he simply appears one day to help the white protagonist. He is the black [...]
