Growing Up

Even nature’s destruction is beautiful.

This is a very geeky, but great, video on the benefits of fungi.
Mycologist Paul Stamets lists 6 ways the mycelium fungus can help save the universe: cleaning polluted soil, making insecticides, treating smallpox and even flu…

A delicate dance between dinner and death.

The mycelium is consumed by the ants. They become mummified and BOING, a mushroom [...]

Warmth

24Mar09

A friend and I were talking about how it was weird to see each other online during the daytime. We’ve been chatting during the wee hours of the morning because we’re both nocturnal like that. So when he signed off today and said, “The early bird gets the worm,” I had to counter with something [...]

I should have taken a photo of it this morning, before it melted.

Pink Dolphin

03Mar09

In the news today…
The world’s only pink Bottlenose dolphin which was discovered in an inland lake in Louisiana, USA, has become such an attraction that conservationists have warned tourists to leave it alone.

Doomsday Vault

11Dec08

The Global Seed Vault, opened this year on the far-northern Norwegian island of Spitsbergen, is a backup for the backups. It’s badly needed — as many as half the seed banks in developing countries are [...]

26 yellow jackets, all together.

Field Trip

22Aug08

To celebrate Dad & Bethany’s (and Kailey’s ) birthday we went to The Newport Aqaurium near Cincinnati, OH.

The lifecycle of a seaturtle. I stood there for 100 years to get this picture. Borrrrring.

UPDATE: Me laughing at Julie for working instead of joining us.

I’ve never been one for signs, but as strange as this was, I have to think it meant something.

Jules and I have been struggling with something this week and having something happen like this that is so clearly defined and associated with the Bible, God & peace, helped us.
Why do doves represent peace? Because [...]

I knew they were working on it, but I didn’t know they succeeded. Very cool.

Out Back

21Mar08

Pictures from the back yard.

Julie’s first snow.

The waterfalls at Mill Springs.

Katie and I laughed at this, but it’s probably not funny if we could read it

14 hours in the car, going up and down the mountains & curves, with icy conditions was GREAT for my nerves
